London Sightseeing: Halloween!

The black cats, jack-o-lanterns and bonfires - it’s hard not to get a little bit caught up in the gore of Halloween. If you’re out and about London sightseeing this autumn, why not visit the attractions which embrace the scare of All Hallows Eve?

The London Dungeon

The London Dungeon

The London Dungeon aims to fright every day of the year, and Halloween is certainly no different! The gruesome London attraction opened a new ride in 2011: ‘Vengeance’ – the UK’s first 5D laser ride. Perfect for Halloween, ‘Vengeance’ takes you to a 19th Century séance in London’s most haunted address, 50 Berkley Square *. The situation quickly spirals out of control and vengeful spirits reap havoc in a world spinning round and round...

Did you know: according to UK superstition, if you see a ghost, walk around it 9 times and it will disappear.

*50 Berkeley Square is currently the home of Maggs Bros, antiquarian book dealers, and is well worth a visit on a London sightseeing tour. It is said that the attic room of the house is haunted by the spirit of a young woman who committed suicide by throwing herself from the top floor window. The vengeful spirit has reportedly taken the form of a white figure or a brown mist – capable of frightening people to death. In fact, in the 19th Century numerous unexplained deaths were reported from the address – all occurring in the attic.

Ravens at the Tower of London

The Tower of London

The home of some of Britain’s bloodiest and intriguing tales – perfect for Halloween! Used as a prison since 1100, the Tower of London has seen Kings, Queens and traitors all imprisoned - their stories brought to life in a series of brilliant exhibitions.

Halloween best-bits:

  • The 6 ravens – eerily suited to Halloween, legend has it that the ravens protect the Tower and the Crown
  • The Scaffold Site – where 7 of the Tower’s most significant prisoners were executed
  • The Lower Wakefield Tower – see the instruments of torture
  • The Bloody Tower – decide for yourself who murdered the Little Princes
  • The Prisoners Exhibition – find out about some of the Tower’s most infamous captives such as Guy Fawkes

London Bridge Experience & Tombs

The winner of London’s best ‘year-round’ scare for 3 years running, the London Bridge Experience and Tombs is a thrilling 2-part attraction atmospherically located under the vaults of London Bridge.

The London Bridge Experience brings to life 2000 years of London Bridge’s fascinating history including Queen Boudicca and the grisly Vikings.

The second part of this London attraction is certainly not for the faint hearted. Formerly a plague-pit, every day is Halloween in The London Tombs. You will meet with ghosts and ghouls, squeeze past walls covered in blood and relive the horror of London’s Plague!
