The Emirates Air Line: Take A Flight Over London on the Thames Cable Car
Train, bus, tram and now air! Transport for London has opened a new urban cable car from Greenwich to the Royal Docks – and it costs just £3.20 with an Oyster Card!
The Emirates Air Line is a cable car crossing the River Thames in Greenwich, and the 1km journey gives passengers spectacular views of London from a height of up to 90m (295ft).
As well as the incredible views of the Thames Barrier, the skyscrapers of Canary Wharf and the impressive Olympic park, the cable car touches down south of the River Thames in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. You’ll land just ten minutes away from the entertainment complex of the o2 Arena, which includes many bars, a cinema, live music venues, a nightclub, the fantastic British Music Experience and the Up at The o2 attraction where visitors actually climb over the famous dome!
There’s no need to queue for tickets, either, as you can use your London Oyster Card just as you would on the Tube or buses. London Oyster Card users also save 25% on their flight on the Emirates Air Line, using just £3.20 of their Oyster credit compared to the £4.30 cash fare.
All cabins are wheelchair accessible and can accommodate up to two bikes.
For those who want the experience of an extended journey there will be the option to take a non-stop ‘360 degree tour’ which will cost £6.40 with Oyster.
Emirates Air Line Opening Hours
1 October - 31 March:
Monday - Friday: 7am - 8pm
Saturdays: 8am – 8pm
Sundays: 9am – 8pm
1 April - 30 September:
Monday - Friday: 7am - 9pm
Saturdays: 8am – 9pm
Sundays: 9am – 9pm
NB: There will be extended opening hours when there are events at the local venues.
Please note you cannot use your London Travelcard on the Emirates Air Line. Passengers with a Travelcard must buy a boarding pass at one of the terminals. This will cost the same as Oyster pay as you go, (£3.20) but you will have to queue.
Please be aware that Emirates Air Line fares will not be included in the Oyster daily capping.
