Please note that due to access restrictions, pushchairs are not allowed within the State Apartments.

Photography and filming (for private use only) are permitted in the Castle Precincts. Mobile phones must be switched off inside the State Apartments and St George's Chapel.

By train: To Windsor from London Waterloo or London Paddington.
By coach: Green Line operates daily services from Victoria Coach Station, London
By road: M4 to Exit 6. M3 to Exit 3

Windsor Castle opening hours

As a working Royal palace, the Castle is used frequently by The Queen for State ceremonies and official entertaining and opening arrangements may change at short notice. Please check opening arrangements before planning a visit (24-hour information line 01753 831118).

March - October

9.45am – 5.15pm (last admission 4pm)

November – February

9.45am – 4.15pm (last admission 3pm)

* During the Olympic Games (28th July until 12 August 2012) opening hours are 10am - 6.15pm (last admission 5pm)

The State Rooms are closed:

Please note than when the State Apartments are closed the Semi-State Rooms will not be open.

St George's Chapel

St. George's Chapel is open daily but closed to visitors on Sundays as services are held throughout the day. Worshippers are welcome to attend the services.

An evening service is held every day at 5.15pm and visitors are welcome to attend.

Diamond Jubilee Exhibition: The Queen, 60 Photographs for 60 Years (February – 28 October 2012)

Reflecting the fascinating relationship between the media and the monarchy that has developed over the last 6 decades. From official portraits to relaxed family gatherings, you can view 60 specially selected photos of the Queen taken by some of the world’s leading press photographers.

Queen Mary's Dolls' House

The most famous dolls’ house in the world – it took over 3 years and 1,500 craftsmen to finish and it even comes complete with electric lighting and flushing toilets!

St George’s Chapel

One of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in England and the resting places of famous British monarchs including Henry VIII and his third wife Jane Seymour.

State Apartments

Furnished with some of the royal family’s own collection of art - the Royal Collection - including work by Rembrandt, Rubens, Canaletto and Gainsborough.

Changing of the Guard

Taking place daily at 11am from April – July and alternate days throughout the rest of the year, this spectacular tradition is not to be missed.
