The York Dungeon will take you on a unique journey through the city’s most horrible history. Everything you see is based on 2000 years of York’s dark history, from the Lost Roman Legion to the chilling tales of local legends including Eric Bloodaxe and the highwayman Dick Turpin. A thrilling and fun experience based on pain, fear, torture and death that will leave you screaming for more!

Transport yourself back to the dark and grizzly history of the Roman city of York. Live actors, shows and interactive special effects ensure that you face your fears head on in this unique experience. Step back in time into the depths of the York Dungeon … are you brave enough?

You are in the depths of the most haunted city in England and can feel death and restlessness fill the air as a chill grips your very bones. Through the silence comes a haunting wail and then suddenly you are confronted by a vengeful ghostly presence that leaves you paralysed by fear … will you escape?

Guided by a full cast of actors, shows include:

  • Guy Fawkes’ Gunpowder Plot and what really happened that November night.
  • Coming face to face with the most blood-thirsty Vikings of York.
  • The Torturer and his intimidating instruments.
  • Stepping inside Castle Prison and discovering all about the infamous crimes of the most notorious highwaymen of them all, Dick Turpin.
