Leeds Castle
Departing London at 8.45am, your air-conditioned coach will head south east into the county of Kent. Leeds Castle is set on a lake in lush green countryside, just outside the town of Maidstone. You’ll get to enjoy the splendour of the castle – described by Lord Conway as ‘the loveliest castle in the world’ – in peace and tranquillity, as tour guests are granted exclusive access before the doors open to the general public. The 500 acres of beautiful landscaped parkland ensured the castle was a favourite retreat of King Henry VIII and its popularity continues to this day.
Canterbury
Heading further east towards the coast, the tour moves on to the popular and historic city of Canterbury. With many parts of the city recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Canterbury is a truly unique destination. All can appreciate the magnificent architecture of the renowned Canterbury Cathedral, while budding historians can discover the story behind the centuries-old building and those with a taste for a murder mystery can investigate the intriguing story behind the gruesome killing of Thomas Becket in 1170.
Lunch
An optional lunch is available for guests on this tour. Dining takes place in one of a number of select partner restaurants near Canterbury Cathedral.
The White Cliffs of Dover
After lunch, the tour continues south on the short journey to Dover. Known as the Gateway to England, Dover has been a port for more than 2,000 years and is steeped in history as a result of its strategic position on the English Channel. Standing atop the famously symbolic White Cliffs of Dover, tour guests can admire the views across the Channel towards France and of the spectacular Dover Castle, the largest castle in England.
Greenwich
Arriving back in the capital, the tour stops at its second UNESCO World Heritage Site. Greenwich in south-east London is peppered with historic maritime landmarks. Guests on this tour can take in the Old Royal Naval College that dominates the waterfront, the attractive architecture of the Royal Observatory and the famous and recently restored Cutty Sark clipper ship.
Thames Cruise
You’ll arrive back in central London in style, aboard a Thames river cruiser boat. The river cruise is a great opportunity to get some fantastic photos of the city skyline and famous landmarks such as Tower Bridge and St Paul’s Cathedral.
The tour will finish at Embankment Pier at around 6.30pm.
