A tour with a twist
The perfect mix of sightseeing, history, comedy and scares, your tour begins in the centre of York, one of England’s most beautiful and atmospheric cities. With a past dating back to Roman times and countless stories of tortured souls, it’s no wonder it has a reputation as England’s ‘most haunted city’.
Step aboard a jet black Routemaster bus, decorated with vintage lighting and velvet curtains. You’ll meet your hosts for the evening, live actors, and maybe a few more unscrupulous characters…
The bus tour will take you on a route around the perimeters of the city’s Roman walls, to discover the dark tales and ghostly goings-on that lurk within them.
The dark history of the city’s sights
You’ll see the city’s top sights including York’s beautiful Minster, said to date back to the year 627, and with its fair share of supernatural stories. As you pass by and admire the beautiful building, hear the tales of lost souls and ghost sightings within, and enjoy some spooky entertainment.
You’ll see Clifford’s Tower, the remains of a Norman castle which was used as a prison for many years. Throughout history, stories of torture, suicide and massacres at the tower have led to its reputation as one of the haunted places in York. Red stains on the wall are said to be bloodstains, and guests have reported feeling ghostly hands around their neck…
Dick Turpin’s grave
Your tour will visit the grave of the notorious gangster and highwayman who was famously hanged in York in the 18th Century. Hear the legends surrounding his life and the horrific events that led to his death, in an aptly spooky location, the city’s cemetery.
See where the gallows that hanged Dick Turpin once stood, and imagine the city as it was hundreds of years ago.
After an evening filled with fun, scares and live entertainment, you’ll arrive back at the meeting point around an hour later.
