Edinburgh Castle

A must for every visitor to the Scottish capital, discover the iconic Edinburgh Castle for your chance to experience more about this stunning landmark and the history of Scotland.

During your visit to the Castle see the Honours of Scotland, also known as the Scottish Crown Jewels, which are amongst the oldest in Europe, and the Stone of Destiny, the ancient coronation seat of Scotland’s Kings.

Also marvel at the strength of this mountain-top military stronghold and see the extent of its firepower with the cannon Mons Meg which dates back to 1460, the Half Moon Battery which gives the Castle its unique profile and serves as a wonderful place to view the city as well as witness the firing of the One o’clock gun which has become an Edinburgh tradition since 1861.

When you book, you will be emailed an e-Voucher. Print it out and bring it with you when you visit Edinburgh Castle. You need to exchange your e-Voucher for a ticket at the Edinburgh Castle Visitor Information Centre, Castlehill, Edinburgh EH1 2NG.

Please ensure you visit at the date and time selected when purchasing. If you wish to visit at another date or time, delays may be caused.

Opening times

• Summer Opening Times (1 April - 30 September): Monday to Sunday 9:30am - 6pm (last entry 1 hour before closing time)
• Winter Opening Times (1 October to 31 March):  Monday to Sunday 9:30am - 5pm (last entry 1 hour before closing time)

Exceptions to the standard opening times

• Closed 25 - 26 December

How to get there

• Nearest train station: Edinburgh Waverley. The station is located on the east end of Princess Street with Edinburgh Castle clearly signposted along the route.
