The Ghost Bus Tour takes place aboard a beautiful 1960s Routemaster bus – a London icon, but not in the traditional red. This black Routemaster is a former Necropolis Bus, used to carry bodies, pallbearers and mourners in private funeral ceremonies and the only one left in existence, the others having been destroyed in a 1967 fire at the bus depot.
The circumstances of the fire were mysterious, not least because just one bus managed to survive while all others were engulfed in flames. Could the bus have some mysterious characteristics of its own?
Restored and renamed as London’s NECROBUS, there is no more appropriate vehicle for exploring London’s horrible and horrifying history.
The sombre and sinister look of the bus’ midnight black exterior is matched by the darkness of the interior, complete with dim lamps and window curtains. The décor will be the last thing on your mind, however, as your guides and on-board special effects immerse you and your fellow guests in the ghastliest episodes of London’s past.
