British Music Experience

Liverpool: synonymous with the Beatles, the Cavern Club and now the British Music Experience, the UK’s museum of popular music located in the iconic Cunard Building on the banks of the River Mersey.

From the groups and sounds of 1945 to the present day, the British Music Experience takes you on a journey of the history of popular music in Britain and how it has influenced British culture over the years.

With such iconic memorabilia as the Epiphone Union Jack Sheraton guitar used by Noel Gallagher at the height of Britpop in the mid-90s and stage outfits worn by David Bowie and Dusty Springfield, learn how rock, pop, dance and other genres were formed and how they have played a part in British life for the past seventy years. You can even watch footage of legendary British acts screened on a full-sized stage featuring regular holographic performances.

You can also learn to play a musical instrument with the best music equipment available, from drum kits to keyboards. Teenagers will love to try their hand at being a rock star by testing the vocal booth and children can enjoy the show and dance the decades in the dance pop routines studio!

After your visit, why not have a look at the fabulous Merch Store where you can find an exclusive range of gifts, clothing, books and memorabilia and rest those dancing feet with a selection of delicious snacks and meals in the Star Café.

When you book, you will be emailed an e-Voucher. Print it out and bring it with you when you visit the British Music Experience. You need to exchange your e-Voucher for a ticket at the Pierhead  entrance: British Music Experience, Cunard Building, Liverpool L3 1DS.

British Music Experience opening times

• October opening times: 10am - 4pm
• November 1st - 31 March 2021: 10.00am - 4.00pm, Thursday - Sunday
• Last admission is at 2.45pm.
• Closed on Wednesdays.

Exceptional Openings

• Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th October
• Monday 21st, Tuesday 22nd, Monday 28th and Tuesday 29th December
• Monday 15th and Tuesday 16th February 2021

How to get there

• The British Music Experience is located opposite James Street station which is on the Liverpool Merseyrail network.
• There are several secure car parks around the area within very easy walking distance, specifically at Liverpool One and the Albert Dock. Parking charges apply.

• The British Music Experience is fully accessible, with step-free access and hearing assistance available throughout.

Groups

You may visit as a small group/family of no more than 6 if you all live together or have formed a social bubble.

On Arrival

The entrance is at the Pier Head (river) side of the Cunard Building. You may be asked to join a queue before entering. The staff will help you with any questions when you arrive.

Pay with card

Only card or contactless payments will be accepted in the museum, cafe and shop.

Extra cleaning

Hand sanitising stations are available in key areas, along with antibacterial wipes to use before using an audio guide or touching our interactive displays. There will be increased cleaning in toilets and other high use areas such as interactive zones, door handles and rails.

Face coverings

Face coverings are mandatory.

Storing your belongings

To reduce touchpoints, the clockroom service is suspended. Prams and buggies are welcome inside the museum.

One-way route

One-way routes are in place throughout the museum.

The Gibson studio

The numbers of the guests allowed inside the studio will be lowered, to allow social distancing.

Audio Guides

Audio Guides will be available,  but you will need to bring your own headphones or listen without.
