Operating hours:
The Changing of the Guard usually takes place on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, although the exact schedule is set by the British Army and can vary. Tour operation days follow this official ceremonial timetable.
On weekdays, the tour generally starts at around 9:40am. On Sundays, it starts earlier at approximately 9:15am, allowing guests to see an additional ceremony, the Change of the Lifeguard, involving mounted Horse Guards.
The tour lasts around 1.5 to 2 hours and involves walking several miles through central London to follow different stages of the ceremony and stay ahead of crowds.
The ceremony takes place across several locations in central London, including Buckingham Palace, St James’s Palace and St James’s Park. On this walking tour, you do not remain in one place but move along the ceremonial route to see key moments as they happen.
