1. Alton Towers Resort, Staffordshire

Getting there: Regular shuttle buses run from Watford Junction to the Studio Tour for £2.50 per person.

LEGO Royal Family

4. Legoland Windsor Resort, Berkshire

There’s so much more to this park than intricate Lego models – Legoland is filled with over 55 interactive rides, attractions, and live-action shows. Plus, it’s the perfect theme park in any season! During colder months, kids can make a splash on a magical submarine ride, test their ninja skills on the 4D Lego Ninjago ride, and relive their favourite film scenes at the Star Wars Miniland Model Display. If you’re visiting during summer, don’t miss the exciting rides at Pirate Shores or Drench Towers, the largest outdoor water play structure in the UK.

Opening times: Legoland is open between March and early November, along with select dates in December. (Please note: the waterpark is closed during the winter months and may not open during extreme weather conditions.) Starfish Tank

5. SEA LIFE Brighton Aquarium, East Sussex

Whether you’re after a bit of excitement or a relaxing afternoon, Brighton is a fantastic choice for a family day out in the UK. Beyond the beach and iconic pier, kids can discover a world of wonder at SEA LIFE Brighton Aquarium. Located only a stone’s throw away from the sea, this attraction features a variety of fascinating marine creatures, interactive talks and feeding times, and the UK’s first glass bottom boat.

6. York Dungeon, Yorkshire

Take a journey to the York Dungeon (if you dare) for some spine-chilling fun. This live-action show brings 2,000 years of local history to life with talented actors, special effects, and immersive sets. You’ll laugh and scream as you meet some of the city’s most notorious characters, from Guy Fawkes to Dick Turpin and even a famous Viking. Once you’ve had your fill of thrills, explore more of York’s sights with the York Pass, which includes entry to 40 top attractions. Visit Castle Howard, take a chocolate factory tour, or embark on an archeological adventure at DIG – this pass has something for all ages!

7. London Zoo

ZSL London Zoo attracts visitors from far and wide for one main reason: more than 17,000 animals call it home. The zoo’s incredible exhibits let you get closer to the animals than ever before: come face-to-face with the king of the jungle at Land of the Lions, observe a colony of gorillas at Gorilla Kingdom, and see endangered Sumatran tigers at Tiger Territory. Whether it’s a daily live feeding show or an educational talk, there’s something for everyone to enjoy here. The only downside? You might struggle to fit it all into one day!

8. Drayton Manor Park, Staffordshire

Drayton Manor Park has all the necessary elements of a fun day out: a captivating zoo, exhilarating rides, and tons of family-friendly activities. There are more than 100 rides and attractions to explore, along with a number of options suitable for younger children – including the ever-popular Thomas The Tank Engine Land.

Heligan Bridge

9. The Lost Gardens of Heligan, Cornwall
