Transport In and Out of London

Heathrow Express

Airport Transfers

Whether you’re flying into Heathrow, Gatwick or Stansted, the quickest and easiest way to gGatwick Expresset into central London is on the dedicated airport express trains.
Departing every 15 minutes, the Heathrow Express runs direct from Heathrow Airport to London Paddington, taking just 15 minutes. Save £5 when you book online.

The Gatwick Express also runs every 15 minutes, and reaches London Victoria from Gatwick Airport in 30 minutes. A taxi would take twice as long and cost at least four times as much!

Getting around London

Getting around the city has never been easier – the London Oyster Card and the London Travel Card both offer excellent convenience and great value for money.

Zones 1-2 cover the whole of central London and are where the majority of attractions and landmarks are located. Top attractions such as the London Eye, the Tower of LondonMadame Tussauds and St Paul’s Cathedral are all in Zone 1, and you can save up to 20% on ticket prices by purchasing in advance from the VisitBritain Shop.

Attractions outside Zones 1-2 include Hampton Court Palace, Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum and Kew Gardens, so purchase the Zone 1-6 Travel Card if you’re tempted by any of these. The Zone 1-6 Travel Card will also allow you to travel to all the way to Heathrow by subway on the Piccadilly line if you do not want to use the Heathrow Express train.

Visitor Oyster CardLondon Oyster Card
The London Oyster Card is a pay-as-you-go smart card for the subway, buses and London Overground trains in London. You can buy London Oyster Cards from the VisitBritain Shop in denominations of £10, £20, £30, £40 and £50 sterling. If your pre-paid balance runs out, simply top up the card’s credit at any subway station or at thousands of retail outlets across London – look out for the Oyster stickers and posters in the window.

The London Oyster Card is smart, too – it caps daily spending, so you can use the buses and subway as many times as you like in one day, but you’ll never pay more than the price of an equivalent Day Travelcard (exclusions apply). The card and its credit don’t have an expiration date so you don’t have to use it on consecutive days and if there’s any credit left when you leave London, save it for your next visit or pass it on to friends or family.
