Day one
Departing Edinburgh at 8am, you’ll begin an amazing three days with a tour of Dunkeld Cathedral, an ancient site with architecture dating back to the 1400s. Set in woodland beneath misty Highland peaks, it’s a perfect first taste of the Highlands.
Then it’s on to the sparkling shores of Loch Ness, for a chance to go monster hunting!
Next you’ll see Eilean Donan Castle, perhaps Scotland’s most iconic picture-postcard castle, which sits perched on its own tiny island.
The day’s final stop is the Isle of Skye where home for the night is the capital, Portree. Spend the evening relaxing by the harbour and sample some seafood in a local restaurant.
Day two
You’ll spend your second day exploring Skye, an island packed with everything from dramatic landscapes, to rare wildlife, to fascinating tales of myths, legends and Viking history.
The day’s itinerary is flexible, allowing you to decide exactly what you want to see. Your guide may take you to see iconic sights like beautiful Dunvegan Castle (entry included), the mysterious Old Man of Storr, or maybe even to spot some of the island’s rare species including puffins, seals, sea eagles, red deer and otters.
After a day of exploration, you will return to Portree for a relaxing evening.
Day three
In the morning you can explore the beautifully-kept castle and gardens of Clan Donald Skye (optional extra for a small fee) before taking a ferry to the mainland fishing village of Mallaig.
The tour concludes in style as you board the Jacobite steam train for one of the most spectacular railway journeys in the world. You will travel through beautiful countryside and cross the Glenfinnan Viaduct, made famous in Harry Potter films as the ‘bridge to Hogwarts’, where the train sometimes pauses for you to admire the views.
Back on the bus, you’ll head south through the dramatic scenery of Glencoe and the wild Rannoch Moor before arriving back in Edinburgh at about 8.30pm.
