What is the itinerary on a Scottish Highlands Bus Tour?
In the morning you’ll travel north from Edinburgh into the Highlands in a comfortable, air-conditioned minibus, accompanied by your knowledgeable Italian or Spanish guide.
Stirling Castle, Loch Lomond and The Trossachs
You will pass Stirling Castle, perched majestically on top of Castle Hill, followed by the William Wallace monument, the pretty town of Callander, before reaching the first stop, Kilmahog.
The hamlet is nestled at the edges of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs, and where you’ll get your first chance to stop and admire the iconic Highlands scenery, as well as spotting some iconic “coos,” or Highland cows.
Glencoe and The Highlands
Continuing through the heart of the Highlands, you’ll reach the atmospheric site of Glencoe. Famous for both the grisly Glencoe Massacre in 1692 and its dramatic scenery, the area is accustomed to stardom – parts of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban were filmed here, as were Monty Python and Highlander.
Ben Nevis and Loch Ness
As you continue on your journey through the Highlands, you’ll have a chance to see the highest mountain in the United Kingdom, majestic Ben Nevis, where thousands of climbers flock each year. You’ll travel on through the lush valleys of this mountainous region until you reach your destination, the town of Fort Augustus, on the banks of Loch Ness.
Here, there will have time to relax and a chance to enjoy some lunch on the banks of the glistening loch (additional cost applies – around £10-20). Then, why not try to spot Nessie on an optional cruise on the loch (additional cost applies)? Or, if you prefer, explore the town or take a walk along the banks of the loch, from where you can see the historic locks of the Caledonian Canal.
The Commando Memorial and Pitlochry
When it’s time for the return trip, you’ll hop back onto the bus to visit the Commando Memorial before stopping off at Pitlochry, a charming Scottish town with lovely Victorian houses. You will then make your way back to Edinburgh.
