Day 1: Edinburgh to Fort William
Departing at 9am from central Edinburgh, you’ll first travel west to Glasgow, Scotland’s most populated city and a vibrant industrial hub. A second pick-up point is available from Glasgow at 10.30am.
Throughout the tour, your guide will offer insights and commentary in Chinese, helping you make the most of your trip of a lifetime.
Watch the landscape change from city suburbs to lush Highland greenery as you travel north from Glasgow to Luss, a small village on the banks of Loch Lomond. Here is the tour’s first stop, where you can admire Britain’s largest body of water in all its glistening glory.
Continuing further north, you’ll reach Scotland’s most famous glen, Glencoe. By turns romantic and hauntingly bleak, the volcanic glen is maybe best-known as the site of a grisly 1692 massacre. It’s also accustomed to stardom – parts of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban were filmed here, as were Monty Python, Highlander and most recently, Skyfall.
You’ll spend the night in nearby Fort William, a charming Highland town on the banks of famous Loch Ness.
Day 2: Fort William – Loch Ness – Isle of Skye – Fort William
On your second day there’s more time to explore Fort William and Loch Ness –scan for ‘Nessie’ from the banks of the lake, and enjoy the bustling market town.
You’ll continue on the bus to perhaps the most magical place on your tour – the otherworldly Isle of Skye, connected to Scotland’s northwest coast by a bridge.
Skye is where you’ll see the fairytale landscapes that give Scotland its atmosphere of fantasy – rugged hills and crags, medieval dwellings and the picturesque fishing town of Portree.
See Kilt Rock, a breathtaking sea cliff said to resemble a Scotsman’s kilt, and watch its glittering waterfall cascade to the azure sea below. After exploring the town of Portree and the scenery of Skye, you’ll return to spend a second night back on the mainland, in Fort William.
Day 3: Fort William to Edinburgh
The tour’s final day is a whistle-stop tour of the Highlands’ top sights, with a stop at Glenfinnan, home to the Glenfinnan Viaduct, the real life ‘bridge to Hogwarts’ used in the Harry Potter films!
If you’re lucky you might even spot the Jacobite Express steam train – the real life Hogwarts Express – crossing the dramatic viaduct.
Next it’s on to Pitlochry, a picturesque town on the outskirts of the Cairngorms National Park, and then St Andrews, a coastal town home to the world-famous St Andrews Links golf course.
On the way back down to Edinburgh, you’ll pass the magnificent Forth Bridge, an UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most iconic sights in Scotland. You’ll arrive back in Edinburgh at approximately 7pm.
