Get ready to reach the summit of one of London’s best known landmarks. Like James Bond in The World Is Not Enough, visitors will get to see the city from the top of the famous dome. However, unlike Bond, guests have to climb rather than slide back down! Be reassured, safety is paramount on this adventure. Guests will be 100% safe at all times with a harness and safety cable, and you can climb and descend at your own pace. Also, there will always be a member of staff nearby to help.
Before you get going you'll meet your friendly Climb Guide who'll take you through everything you need to know and show you the introductory video. Any illusions that this is a casual stroll will soon be shattered, as you’ll be given a full climb suit, a safety harness and some climbing shoes if you need them – stilettos really aren’t suitable for this adventure!
You'll then make your way onto the walkway, via a short set of stairs, or lift, to the base of the tent ready to start your climb. The walkway is raised above the surface of the dome itself but is slightly bouncy. If you’re near the front of the team tread carefully, as extra bounce may have a ‘ripple effect’ for those behind you.
There is an observation platform at the summit where you can take in spectacular 360° views of London and its many landmarks. Once on the platform you’ll be perfectly safe to freely walk around, but at all other times you'll be attached with your harness to the climb system on the walkway for extra safety. Your Climb Guide will be nearby to offer help if needed and answer any questions.
At its steepest point the walkway has an incline of 28° on the way up and 30° on the way back down. There's a hand rail on the walkway and a balustrade on the observation platform.
You’ll be fitted with an optional motion tracker at the start of the adventure so when you get back down make sure you check out your own personalised climb movie in the gift shop!
