Using your London Day Travelcard

Your Travelcard will be date-stamped for the date you wish to use it, and ready for use as soon as you arrive in London. Simply show your Travelcard to bus drivers or put it through the turnstiles at train and tube stations.
As it is a unlimited transport ticket, the London Day Travelcard has no daily cap.

How can I order for different dates?

Consecutive 2 and 3-day Travelcards are available when booking. You will receive a set of 2 or 3 individual London Day Travelcards according to your order.

For non-consecutive travel dates, you should purchase individual London Day Travelcards for those specific dates.

Which zones do I need a Travelcard for?
Zones 1-2 cover the centre of London and most major attractions.
Zones 2-4 cover more suburban areas of central London, as well as places like Wimbledon Tennis Club and Wembley Stadium.
Zones 5-6 sits further out and includes sites like Heathrow Airport and Hampton Court Palace.

Is the London Travelcard a 24h card?
If you have an Anytime Day Travelcard, you can use it from the very first minute of the day (00:01) until 4:29 a.m. the next morning.
For an Off-Peak Day Travelcard, you’ll need to wait until 9:30 a.m. on weekdays to use it. On weekends and public holidays, it’s valid all day long. Either way, just like the Anytime card, it’s good until 4:29 a.m. the next day.

When are Peak travel times and when are Off-Peak travel times?

Peak fares are in place from Monday to Friday, between 6:30 am–9:30 am and 4:00 pm–7:00 pm.
Off-peak fares are in place at all other times, and are also in place if you take a journey from a station outside Zone 1 to a station inside Zone 1 between 4:00 pm–7:00 pm, Monday to Friday.
Should I get a London Travelcard or a Visitor Oyster card?

Whether you should get a London Day Travelcard or a Visitor Oyster card depends on how long you’re staying in London and how frequently you’ll be using public transport. Here’s a quick comparison:
Visitor Oyster card:
The most flexible option: pay as you go fares, with daily fare caps. No need to plan your zones, as you’ll only pay for what you use.
Includes airport travel: you can use your Visitor Oyster card for airport transfers on the Gatwick Express and the Heathrow Express.
Reusable: keep your Visitor Oyster card and top it up for future visits to London.
London Day Travelcard:

Great for heavy use: the card covers unlimited travel in a set number of days and zones, so can be more cost effective than hitting the Oyster fare cap each day.
No need to top up: the London Day Travelcard is a fixed, upfront price, so there’s no need to worry about topping it up with more credit.
Great for groups: we offer a Group Day London Travelcard that offers the most cost-effective option for groups of 10+ travelling together.
Which one should you use?

On a short visit, with occasional travel? Choose the Visitor Oyster card.

Can families or groups all use the same Travelcard?

No, each person must have their own London Travelcard, except under 11s who travel free with a paying adult (four children per one paying adult).
If you are travelling in London with a group of 10 or more people, you might want to consider buying a Group Day Travelcard.
I’m visiting a location outside of Zones 1-6. What ticket do I need?

London Day Travelcards bought on the VisitBritain Shop only cover Zones 1-6. If your destination is in Zones 6-9, you can use a Visitor Oyster Card to reach them. For any location outside of Zones 1-9, you’ll need to purchase a direct train ticket at the station.
Can London Day Travelcards be used on buses?

Yes, your London Day Travelcard can be used on any regular London bus operated by TfL, regardless of which zones you are travelling through. London Day Travelcards are not valid on London Sightseeing buses or buses operated by companies other than TfL.
